The Christian & Politics - Selected Scriptures, September 14, 2008. This sermon gives some basic Biblical principles and precepts by which we can and should evaluate all candidates for any office for any election. Pastor Harris also corrects some widely held misconceptions about separation of church and state in the United States.

Pastor Harris touched on parables back in the beginning of March.  In case you don't remember, he spoke about how parables were both a mercy and a judgment upon those who would not hear:  judgment, in that they would be kept in the darkness they loved, and mercy in that it would not increase their condemnation for the extra knowledge they would have gotten by hearing.  This morning, I'll be talking about the parable of the sower.  The parable of the sower is a parable that illustrates the distinction of true believers from false believers.  It's an important distinction; one that is a matter of life and death, heaven and hell, so it's vitally important that we understand where we stand before God.

The Messiah is Rejected - Matthew 12-13, Pastor Scott L. Harris. The antagonism between Jesus and the Pharisees reach the point of blasphemy as the Pharisees try to get Jesus to conform to their legalism and Jesus corrects them. Jesus also begins to teach in parables in order to conceal the truth about His kingdom from His enemies while revealing to His followers.

Harris,  January 13, 2008.    In this sermon Pastor Harris traces the Old Testament prophecies concerning the coming of the promised Messiah and shows that Jesus is the only one that could fulfill them. He was of the correct blood line while avoiding the cursed blood line; born in the right place at the right time; was without both inherited and personal sin; and demonstrated by His many miracles that He is the Son of God.

Harris.  In this sermon Pastor Harris gives an overview of the book of Deuteronomy with an emphasis upon its them of God's blessing for obedience and curses for rebellion. While the specific blessings and curses belong to Israel alone, the general principles belong to everyone. Whether you are blessed or cursed is your choice and determined by how respond to God's commands.

Introduction:  Over the last couple of weeks we have examined the book of Leviticus and the laws God gave to the sons of Israel concerning sacrifices, ceremonial purity and the moral standards by which they were to live. God was now dwelling in the Tabernacle in the midst of their camp. This placed the sons of Israel in danger of being destroyed if they did not approach the Lord properly or lived in a manner of continuing sin. The sacrificial system and purity laws allowed them to approach the Lord properly, and the morality laws defined for them God’s standards for their behavior as well as the penalties for various sins. God is loving, merciful, kind, gracious, patient and longsuffering, but He is also holy, righteous and just. Sin cannot continue in His presence without His judgement coming upon the unrepentant sinner. That is still true today.

It is dangerous to worship God improperly. Moses intercedes for them and in the process sees God's glory.

Harris.  Grace Bible Church, September 9, 2007.     In this sermon Pastor Harris traces God's preservation of His chosen people from both the evil influences of the Canaanites and a severe famine through Joseph becoming second in command in the nation of Egypt. Though Joseph has suffered from the evil intentions of his brothers who sold him into slavery, and the evil intentions of Potiphar's wife who lied about him and had him thrown in jail, God used those very things to train Joseph and then elevate him into a position in which he was able to save both Egypt and his family from the seven years of severe famine.

In this sermon Pastor Harris explains Genesis 4 & 5 and the spread of sin from Adam & Eve to their descendants. The hope that came with the birth of Cain turned to sorrow when he murdered his younger brother, Abel. Cain's descendants, though very intelligent, are marred with sin. The descendents of Adam & Eve's third son, Seth, trace the line of promise, but they are also marked by sin. Though they lived incredibly long lives averaging 912 years, each of them dies with the exception of Enoch.
